Do you prefer models with supports already included or do you add them yourself in the slicer? I’m trying to figure out what works best for complex shapes without wasting material.

I’ve gone back and forth on this so much that I’ve settled into a pretty simple rule for myself now: I add supports in the slicer unless the model comes with them built in a way that clearly shows the creator already tested the angles and overhangs to minimize waste. I used to think pre-supported was always the safer bet, but I’ve had just as many prints fail from bad pre-supports as I’ve had from my own bad placement, so now I look at how the model is oriented first. What changed things for me was spending time on a site like https://www.gambody.com/ and seeing how their designers actually lay out the supports with the printability in mind from the start—it taught me to pay attention to islands and contact points before I ever hit slice, because no matter which route you pick, a model designed for FDM versus resin changes everything about how you should approach it.
