The “perfect” video probably doesn’t exist, but there are definitely some tricks to finding something that fits the moment. When I’m alone, I usually start by asking myself what kind of feeling I want: comfort, intensity, curiosity, something playful? That already helps narrow down the options. If I ignore my mood and just click random thumbnails, I end up getting bored halfway through and restarting the search. It’s a bit like picking a movie – knowing whether you want a slow burn or a quick hit makes the choice much easier.

When it’s with someone else, I’ve noticed it works better if we decide together on the website instead of one person just pressing play and hoping the other likes it. We’ll scroll a bit, mention what looks promising, maybe watch a couple of previews on the website with the sound low, and see what reaction that triggers. Sometimes we even agree that nothing feels quite right that night and skip video altogether, which is also fine. The point isn’t to find some “perfect” clip, it’s to use what’s on the website as a starting point for our own mood, not as the main event.
